Shooto Rookies Fight for Finals

 OSAKA, Japan, Sept. 29 -- The Shooto Gig went west Saturday for a card stacked with rookie tournament action.

Unfortunately for promoter Sustain, the previously advertised main event, Shinji Sasaki versus Paolo Milano, fell through. As a result the rookies stepped up to entertain the full house.

In the main event undefeated Junya Kudou took on Yasuhiro Kanayama with the winner advancing to the 132-pound rookie tournament final.

Minowa Has Little Trouble in Victory

 NAGOYA, Japan, Aug. 11 -- HEAT, a cage and the ever popular "Minowaman" made their way to the Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium Saturday evening in a landmark event for Japanese mixed martial arts and kickboxing in the promotion's fourth installment.

Whilst HEAT's first three cards were held within the square ring, tonight, in cooperation with Cage Force, a switch was made to the octagon cage along with a change of rules to match that of the Unified Rules of MMA, which are used throughout North America.

Kunioku and Nakao Fight to a Draw

 OSAKA, Japan, July 8 -- Headlined by a "dream fight" that promoter Shigeru Saeki said came four or five years too late, the 30th installment of DEEP featured former Shooto contender Jutaro Nakao against ex-King of Pancrase Kiuma Kunioku.

Both men were desperate for a win, each having losing their last two outings.

Hioki Fights Carvalho with Eye on Title

Affectionately known as the Iron Broomstick in some circles, Japan's Hatsu Hioki is set to face Canadian Antonio Carvalho, now fighting out of Tokyo, in this week's Shooto: BACK TO OUR ROOTS card.

This is a critical fight for the 143-pound weight class and most likely has the winner in line for a shot at the title -- a title that is incidentally also on the line Friday.
